Mr. Jirut studied biomedical engineering with an emphasis in medical device electronics and design at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and received a Bachelor of Engineering degree in 2000. As a Vanderbilt Chancellor's Scholar, Mr. Jirut was awarded an academic, full-tuition scholarship for his undergraduate studies at Vanderbilt, as well as a semester study of cultural and legal studies at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia.
Following his graduation from Vanderbilt, Mr. Jirut attended DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, Illinois as a Robson Scholar and was awarded a Juris Doctor with a certificate of specialization in General Intellectual Property Law in 2003. During his studies at DePaul, Mr. Jirut clerked at Cook, Alex, McFarron, Manzo, Cummings & Mehler, Ltd. (now Cook Alex Ltd.) beginning in 2001. In 2002, he was admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a patent agent. Mr. Jirut joined the Cook Alex law firm as an associate attorney in 2003, until joining the Law Offices of Eugene M. Cummings, P.C. in 2008.
Mr. Jirut's practice is focused on intellectual property portfolio management; intellectual property transaction matters including mergers and acquisitions and licensing matters; U.S. copyright, patent, and trademark prosecution matters; litigation; patent validity and infringement analyses; video game law; mobile app law; and other matters relating to the video game and mobile app industry. He represents various corporations in protecting intellectual property rights for numerous technical areas, including video game design, mobile app development, diesel engines, locomotives, electrical power system protection equipment, surface treatment technologies for tooling and manufacturing components, hand tools, medical devices, pharmaceuticals and other technologies.
